Fixed on You

Fixed on You - Laurelin Paige

Well, color me surprised. Why have I waited so long to read this? I guess when you hear it’s about millionaire playboys and making deals in exchange for sex a business proposition, ya think, ‘been there, done that waaaaay to many times to count’.

I definitely didn’t expect to start this book at 10pm and finish at 3am. To be honest, I rolled my eyes the first chapter, but then I could not stop reading. Hudson’s character was not at all what I expected. His “mental illness” really sucked me in. Alayna’s issues…CRAZY! But you know what? I LOVE IT! It’s book crack.

Not gonna go into too much detail, you can read about that in the cover write up. The next book in this series comes out October first and I cannot wait! Total book candy.

GOT IT!!!!! ARC on the kindle!!! It's gonna be a long night ya'll!
Only For You - Genna Rulon If you walk away from this read with anything at all it will be the tools and the knowledge needed to keep yourself safe. Only for You is a romance and so much more.

It’s a story of roommates in college nearing graduation and living with the fear of a potential serial rapist/murder on the loose. A school sponsored self-defense class is where the roommates meet the hotty instructor Hunter. Everleigh, in an attempt to bring levity, is caught joking around and is asked to leave. Making an example out of her, Hunter tosses Everleigh out. Teary eyed Everleigh decides to shake it off and get ready her first class of the semester.

Well looky who is sitting behind Everleigh in class……. Uh huh. You got it - Hunter. This begins the cat and mouse of enemies, friends, and wannabe lovers. With the mystery of who could be after the woman of Hensley University, everyone is a potential suspect. The girls start to question motives and actions of those around them. Hunter becomes a fixture in the girl’s lives and a constant monitor.

I like the overall story very much. The girls are great, the chemistry between Hunter and Everleigh was spot on, and the mystery keeps you guessing right up until the end. My only criticism would be to tone down on the info. At times I felt like I was reading a pamphlet instead of a romance. If you want to give a girl heading off to college a subtle safely lesson with a hint of romance and mystery, this is your book. It really is a great start to a new series.

All in all 4 STARS for romance, info and mystery.

Soul Survivor - Katana Collins I just can’t say it enough - I LOVE THIS SERIES. I’m not sure it’s getting the attention it deserves. If you haven’t read book one: Soul Stripper, stop what you’re doing and go get it. It’s a PNR that every book lover must read. The characters are great and I am invested in all of them. The pace is fast, the sex sizzles, and the story lines don’t disappoint.

Soul Survivor starts pretty much where we left off in Soul Stripper. Monica, fallen angel and succubus with a touch of witch, is still dealing with a broken heart…many broken hearts. She just can’t seem to catch a break. The reader travels back and forth through flashbacks to when it all began for Morgan: how she fell from grace, and ultimately how she became the succubus she is today. I enjoyed discovering her beginnings. It’s sad to see how naive and trusting she was. It’s also enraging to see how things were never fully explained and shared with her until it was all too late. It’s a wonder Morgan isn’t more cynical to the world around her. Especially after the realization that she’s been seemingly used by every man in her life. It’s a bitter-sweet story that endears her even more to me.

There is plenty of sexy time. Unlike other books, it seems secondary to the heart of Morgan’s character. It’s her food, not love. Getting others to recognize this is often hard, and doesn’t work well in relationships.

The plotline is a good one. There are murders to solve, and with a connection to many of the characters, it causes a great mystery to the who and why of it all. I won’t go into much more detail, as you can get the gist of it in the cover write up. It’s a fantastic follow up to book one and I CANNOT WAIT until book three, Soul Surrender, is released in April of 2014!

5 STARS for an amazing series by an amazing writer.

Redemption - C.J. Barry Reya Sinclair’s character fascinated me. I don’t think I have read a character like her before. She is for all intent and purposes a grim reaper of sorts. A Redeemer of Souls is her title. Asking those soon to part the earth if the truly repent their sins before death takes them. Redemption has a Final Destination (The movie) feel about it. Many of these people meet their demise is very dramatic and unusual ways.

Due to some of the unusual deaths, Detective Thane Driscoll takes notice. A cop known for bending the law and the truth to get criminals off the street, Thane is captivated by this woman in black. He has caught her several times on camera near or after the deaths happen. After meeting Reya Thane soon discovers all he thinks he knows about the world around him is just a microscopic portion of reality.

Redemption is a story of these two reliving some of their past so that we can get to the heart of the story. The future of the world depends on it. Good verse evil, dark verses light, who will win in the end?

Romance plays in the background. Not very high on the sizzle factor though. I feel it could have used a bit more sexual tension than what we were given. I very much like these two as a couple. I just wish the buildup was more about Reya and Thane connecting and less world building. But hey, it is book one of a new series so that is to be expected. A solid start to a new series.

Nora Roberts Land - Ava Miles Nora Roberts Land by Ava Miles

Let me begin by saying that I am a major J.D. Robb fan. I have read all the In Death books more than once. The only other Nora Roberts’s books I have read are the Boonsboro Inn Trilogy. For those that do not know, that amounts to over thirty books! So when I saw this book and read the cover write upm I was instantly in. What fan wouldn’t be? The premise is cute and trying to find a Nora love is what many hope for in life.

Meredith is dealing with an ass of an ex and is trying to rebuild herself after a divorce. She has finally admitted to herself that it was never really love, and as he puts it, “reality and not some romance book”. He just wanted her for her family name and connections.

But Meredith has a plan; she is going to find herself real romance - just like a Nora Roberts book heroine does. Armed with her confidence booster (expensive undergarments), she will become her very own super woman.

Her ex, however, has other ideas of what will happen. Scared that Meredith will use her knowledge of his past misdeeds against him in his bid for political gain, he devises a plan: find a guy to make her fall in love and then break her heart. I won’t go on as you can read the cover write up and get the rest from there.

So, my real thoughts and feelings after I have read it…. meh. I liked Meredith, but her sister annoyed me to no end. Not every sentence spoken has to be a funny one and it just seemed forced to me. After the third joke in a row, it’s not fun anymore. All the stores in town had to have a play on words…it just seemed like overkill.

There are MANY references to Nora Roberts’s books throughout. But if you are like me and haven’t read them all you won’t get the references. I was left confused at times with all the comparisons. But if you are an avid fan I am sure you’ll get it.

The story also unexpectedly changes directions. I didn’t go in expecting a mystery to solve, but I got one. It was a bit predictable yet fun none the less.

To sum it up: diehard fans will more than likely love it. I myself give it a respectable three stars; wasn’t blown out of the water, but I did enjoy it. I won’t be following the series to come though.

Covet - Tracey Garvis Graves What an amazing journey it is through the day to day life of a wife and mother! It’s often unappreciated and overlooked. Covet is a look into a life that is all too common for many. It is an honest look into marriage and the peaks and valleys that go with it. I shed tears, felt butterflies and was scared for this couple; along with their friends and neighbors that we see the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

Covet isn’t a romance and is listed as woman fiction. I just see it as real life. The honesty of it speaks to me. No flowery words or all consuming want and need, just real life: kids that need to get to school on time, bake sales, PTO meetings, car maintenance and grocery store runs. It’s life.

In Covet, Claire is dealing with a husband that had been laid off from work and as a result suffers from depression. Now again employed, Chris travels a lot. When he is home he’s focused on the kids and work. Claire is very much an afterthought. What was once a solid couple is now crumbling apart. Falling into a comfortable rut happens. Getting used to the complacency happens, and people focus on just making it to Friday.

I felt like a fly on the wall of any American home. We tend to think people are so perfect or have it all and, what we fail to realize is that we are all struggling to keep our lives together. From the outside nothing is what it seems.

Claire forms a friendship with Local police officer Daniel Rush. There is never any physical relationship between these two. But it is a friendship she keeps from her husband. This brings up the issues with emotional cheating. Is it really cheating? If Daniel was a woman would we feel the same?

I found Covet to be a fantastic read: one I could not put down till I was finished. I am not sure this will be something a younger unmarried demographic would get or understand, but as a wife and mother for over twenty years I felt for Claire. I can understand her and empathize.

A wonderful read: thought provoking and real.

A Little Too Far - Lisa Desrochers
A Little Too Far by Lisa Desrochers

Wow, just wow. I was completely transfixed on this book from beginning to end. It is one of those instances where I was just drawn in. Whether it was the writing style, or the story, or just a captivating premise I was hooked. It’s a modern day Thorn Birds of sorts. I do know that I absolutely loved it.

Lexie was fifteen when her father married and brought a woman with a sixteen year old son into their family. A bond formed and grew into a fierce friendship. They have shared everything from heartaches to tattoos. One night, however, it all culminates into territory that siblings aren’t supposed to go into.
Well, at least not in their Catholic upbringing anyway. Lexie soon heads off to a year of study in Rome leaving her relationship with Trent an awkward, miserable mess.

Seeking to understand and handle the guilt she feels, Lexie tries to find absolution in the church and meets Alessandro - just six months shy of the priesthood and too sexy for words. A friendship forms through a mission Lexie has been given by a priest to help Alessandro with some of the youth. Being an art major, Lexie tours the Vatican, museums, and galleries forming a friendship that confuses our sweet priest wannabe. All the while Lexi still can’t forget or get over Trent. But can she with Alessandro? Is it fair to either of them if she does?

I loved Lexie’s character. She is struggling to come to terms with her feelings, and wanting to learn from her surroundings and understand the people she affects and their actions in turn. It is a story of self discovery and realization. We get a lesson in art, and having been to the Vatican myself I felt transported back. It’s great writing with funny witty characters. So high praise to the author, Lisa Desrochers, for a wonderful read!

5 STARS!

Forged in Dreams and Magick - Kat Bastion A love(s) that transcends time. *Sigh* There is just something about the romance of the highlands that sucks me into a story. The mystery, atmosphere and sexy warriors of old. Alpha males and damsels in distress, a winning combo. Forged in Dreams and Magick is so much more than a highland fairytale.

Isobel stumbles on a box that has been handed down, cherished and even stolen by chieftains for centuries. It brings his soul mate to him through time and space. Isobel is that one true soul mate for Iain. After knowing him for years she is shocked when they are pulled into Iain’s time centuries in the past. Isobel has to learn their ways and adjust her thinking to acclimate to this new world of old.

Just when things are going well Isobel is yet again hurled through time and lands in another century with yet another soul mate. This one is pretty much instantaneous. Velloc the leader of a tribe even further back in time does something to her that is all encompassing and consuming. It’s Magick.

Traveling back and forth between these two men trying to understand the feelings she has for both is trying and infuriating to all involved.During the back and forth Isobel discovers that there is more to the box than lovers at both ends. Why was she chosen for this? What is the purpose? What is her role in the universe and who or what controls it. Also what she does in the past, will it change the future?

There is so much more to this book than the love triangle between worlds. There is outside forces at work. There are mysteries of the universe and secrets held by both chieftains. There will be tragedy, loss, political turmoil and unknown magical factions at play. I was completely pulled in and found myself absorbed in the world created by Bastion.

I have heard it compared to the Outlander Series by Gabaldon. To an extent, sure I see the similarity. However, Bastions world is more romance and magic and less history lesson. A more condensed story. Well written and easy to read.

I can honestly say I am hooked and cannot wait to read the next book in the series Bound by Wish and Mistletoe (Highland Legends, #1.5) coming November 2013.

Love Lost

Lost Love is a short story, 57 pages. It is billed as book two in The Anthony Brothers Series. I have given this story 2 Stars by KT Book Review’s rating system as an Okay read. I can honestly tell you that Love Lost has the potential for a 4 or even a 5 star rating. Truthfully, to me, it felt more like an outline for a great book.

Markus, sulking and brooding over his recent break up, kicks off the book in the bar of his brothers wedding. That is until a sexy siren by the name of Savannah comes along spilling her drink all over him.
This is not their first meeting as they were once a couple in high school. I do love a story where second chance romance is the star. I always find it sweet. Discovering how they have changed over the years with the relation of how they have stayed the same. Its a good premise.

There was just too much cramped in 57 pages. I would have loved to have seen this story fleshed out more so that I could really connect to these characters. Plus a little sexy time could go a long way ;) we don’t get much as this is more fade to black. The writing style flows easily and is well done. So if you are looking for a short quick read this could be for you.

What I absolutely did LOVE is the cover. It’s beautifully done and draws the eye.

Beautiful Bombshell (Beautiful Bastard #2.5) - Christina Lauren Ready for a romp in sin city? Well grab your strappy heels and let’s go girls! Two of my favorite men Max and Bennett take turns with POV and sexing up their prospective woman in Vegas. This is a novella and I won’t be going into great detail as doing so just spoils the fun of reading a novella.

The banter is good, the tension is amazing and the laughs just keep coming. We are also given the set up for the next book in this series Beautiful Player. I cannot wait to see what happens with Will!

To sum it up, our boys are naughty sexy and out girls are fun and flirty. Fans of the Beautiful Bastard series are in for a real treat. It is candy reading at its best!
